My work brings together UX, visual design, and emerging technology. I’m interested in how design can help people interact with increasingly complex digital systems without adding unnecessary cognitive or physical burden.
I have more than 20 years of experience in digital design, including well over a decade in moving image design, VFX, and motion graphics. In recent years I have increasingly focused on UX, UI, and product design, combining visual design with UX thinking. Whatever the task is, I enjoy turning complexity into clarity.
Compared with screen-based user interfaces, XR changes the nature of the design problem. Interface elements no longer occupy a fixed rectangle. Instead, they share space with the physical environment. They compete with it for attention, and can affect how people move and perceive the world around them.
This led me to look beyond individual UI patterns and consider how spatial interfaces could be designed as systems. The RBL Framework grew from that exploration.
Design decisions should have a reason behind them. Research, experimentation, and critical evaluation help reveal those reasons.
Individual interface elements rarely exist in isolation. I look at how elements relate to each other, the user's task, and the context in which they are used.
Technology should adapt to people rather than asking people to accommodate unnecessary complexity. In XR, this means taking cognitive load, comfort, ergonomics, and safety seriously.
This is also how I approach developing the RBL Framework.
